Just wonderful all around. Spoke to the owner over the phone and she was unbelievably helpful with getting a cake made for me quickly. Just above and beyond customer service that will now make Mabel Mae’s the only place we buy from moving forward. The cake itself was phenomenal. Wonderfully rich without being overwhelming at all. Amazing birthday cake.... Listen, I've tried other lovely local bakeries and nothing is as good as Mabel Mae's cakes. You aren't compromising anything, the taste and texture of the frosting and cake are exactly what you would expect from a delicious conventional cake. I have celiacs and my husband ordered German chocolate cake for me. It was one of the best cakes I've ever had, gluten free or not. Love her scones and pastries too, such a gem here in Charleston!
This amazing owner made me a gender reveal cake and had it ready in two days! It was absolutely adorable and delicious! Having a new option for both vegan and gluten free is amazing! Finally some more options in Charleston! It’s hard to fit the criteria for both and still taste so good!
While on vacation in Charleston I looked up gluten free/vegan option and was thrilled to find Mabel Mae’s Bakery. I ordered the breakfast sampler in advance and arranged to pick it up. It was such a wonderful treat to have while on vacation. Our favorite was the blueberry muffin (which surprised me as I’m not always a muffin person) as it was moist and so flavorful. I also really enjoyed the pecan bun. My husband loved that it was refined sugar free as he is pretty sensitive to refined sugar. I highly recommend trying her stuff out!
I am so thankful to have found Mabel Mae's! I was spending my birthday near Charleston and had asked if I could pick up at a later time, the owner was so very accommodating. I was so very thankful! The cake was GORGEOUS! The cake was moist and thick. The frosting was sweet and light. The crumble was good as well. Family that doesn't usually eat gf/ vegan said it was delicious!
My husband surprised me with cupcakes for my birthday and I was ecstatic!!! I recently went dairy free for breastfeeding and wanted to still celebrate with cake. Might I say it tasted even better than store bought regular ones. Even had all my family members SUPER impressed considering how clean the ingredients are. 10/10 recommend. Aside from that they have amazing pastries/cookies/etc. By far the best bakery in town. Some might say they’re a little pricey but keep in mind all the great ingredients, they’re expensive to make 😊
Mabel Mae’s came highly recommended by a trusted events coordinator, so I had a feeling it would be special but Niki and her team exceeded every expectation. Each item was absolutely scrumptious, but my favorite were the Apple Cider Donuts - truly phenomenal! I wholeheartedly recommend Mabel Mae’s - it has quickly become one of my favorite things about Charleston! Thank you, again, for helping make our event unforgettable! :)
Great spot for gluten-free eaters, but also for health conscious folks. The sweets are made fresh every day and not too sugary so the flavors really shine. Sandwiches also healthy but yummy. We are outside on a cute patio but also did takeout. You can pre-order too.
Niki is a genius, and I cannot thank her enough! She creates bakery items that will bring tears to your eyes. At least that was my experience watching my daughter eat her comfort foods once again. Since my daughter developed a gluten intolerance, we had almost given up finding baked goods that don’t taste like you are giving up something or having to settle for flavor. Mabel Mae’s had all of them: cake, doughnuts, and cinnamon rolls, and they are all delicious! Everyone enjoyed them, even those without allergies. Besides tasting good, the baked goods are as beautiful as they are in the photos. We will continue to make the drive from Florence to Mabel Mae’s! It is more than worth it!
